Please join us in giving a warm welcome to Julie Thompkins, our new Health Services Manager! Julie will primarily oversee our Durable Medical Equipment program as well as the Emerson Resource Center, working directly with families to ensure they receive the assistance they need.
Julie’s background has more than prepared her for this role. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Truman State University. Most recently, she served as a Family Navigator at St. Louis Arc, working to connect families of young children with resources, services, and support. Prior to that, she worked as a Family Resource Specialist in St. Louis Arc’s Capable Kids and Families® program.
When asked what she is most looking forward to in her new role at Variety St. Louis, she says, “I am excited and thankful for the opportunity to help families like mine discover and access assistive technology and adaptive equipment for their children.”
Julie knows the tremendous difference the right equipment can make in the life of a child and their family. As a mom to a Variety Kid herself, she has appreciated the supportive process that Variety has put in place to assist families, and she is eager to provide the same level of care to other families. While most of Julie’s time will be dedicated to the details of the Equipment program, she is also looking forward to connecting families with other resources and services at Variety, and throughout the area as well.
Outside of work, Julie most enjoys spending time with her family, reading, and exploring new places. Her family includes her husband, Tony, as well as three children Micah, Elise, and Isaiah.
Isaiah, Julie’s youngest son, has Cerebral Palsy and uses a variety of adaptive equipment for communication, mobility, and independence. Isaiah keeps the family entertained using his communication device to tell jokes and request a variety of music. Isaiah has participated in Variety Camp and has benefited from the Equipment program in the past.
We are thrilled to have Julie on board and we are looking forward to seeing her put both her personal and professional experience and expertise to work for Variety Families. Welcome to the team, Julie!
