Honoring the Legacy of Sam Fox
Variety St. Louis pays tribute to the extraordinary life of Ambassador Sam Fox, a remarkable individual whose humor, kindness, and commitment left an enduring mark on the St. Louis community.
From humble beginnings, Sam achieved incredible success as the founder of Harbour Group, a billion-dollar investment firm, and as the U.S. Ambassador to Belgium under President George W. Bush. Beyond his professional accomplishments, he dedicated himself to enriching St. Louis institutions, lending his support to the St. Louis Art Museum, St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, various Republican campaigns, and many more.
His inseparable bond with his wife, Marilyn Fox, amplified his connection to Variety Kids. Together they championed causes that transformed lives. Marilyn’s leadership of Variety’s Dinner With the Stars gala for over 20 years was steadfastly supported by Sam, who not only shared her vision but actively participated, hosting and emceeing the Man & Woman of the Year reception. Sam himself received Variety’s Man of the Year in 2002.
Their generosity extended even further with a generous challenge gift to establish the Adventure Camp endowment. This transformational contribution ensured that children with special needs can experience an inclusive, accepting, and celebratory summer camp environment for generations to come.
“Few people in this world inspire others simply by their presence. Ambassador Fox was at the pinnacle of that exclusive group. His inseparable bond with Marilyn was central to his impact. Sam led by example, establishing a generous endowment to ensure children with special needs will always experience the Adventure Camp that Marilyn helped create. Ambassador Fox consistently instilled the belief within the St. Louis community that more can always be done to empower the most vulnerable in our society,” shares Variety CEO, Brian Roy.
We are profoundly grateful for Sam’s unwavering dedication to Variety Kids and our mission.
May his memory be a Blessing.
