Restoring Lillie’s Mobility
Variety’s Medical Equipment & Assistive Technology program empowers local kids and teens with the tools to safely navigate and fully participate in their worlds. When a car accident took away a crucial piece of Lillie’s accessibility, her family didn’t know where to turn to help her access the community again. Mom Amber shares…
“When our adapted van was totaled in a wreck that was not our fault last summer, I found out our insurance that was supposed to cover valet seats was not actually covered. My daughter has limited mobility and is not able to climb/step up into a van. She is 13 years old, 100 pounds and growing, so she is well past my ability to safely lift her into a vehicle. So having a valet seat is a necessity for her to be able to travel anywhere outside of the home.
As a single mom and teacher, I had no idea how I would be able to afford a new van and valet seat for my daughter. Medical insurance does not cover these seats, nor does automotive accident insurance. Having the financial support from Variety was a HUGE help in ensuring Lillie has access to her community, staying involved with our family, even going to doctors’ appointments. Thank you!”
