“This year, I ran the Boston Marathon to support Variety…”

Todd Oswald, devoted Variety Dad and running enthusiast, took on the monumental challenge of running the 127th Boston Marathon in 2023.

Todd was invited to participate in the iconic race in support of a charity of his choosing. For him, the decision was obvious.

Although the marathon’s official charities are typically Boston-based, Todd was determined to run for Variety St. Louis, the organization that has always been there for his family.

“I am running because of the life-changing opportunities Variety has given my daughter Katy over the past 18 years of her life,” expressed Todd.

Motivated by his gratitude, Todd embarked on a mission to raise $5,000, a target he successfully reached the night before the race.

While pinning his racing bib on his Team Katy shirt, Todd already felt like a champion.

“Even if I didn’t hit my time goal, I accomplished the more important goal — supporting Variety’s extraordinary work.”

On April 17, 2023, Todd proudly crossed the finish line amidst lively cheers from the crowd, bringing his emotional journey to an end.

“This was my chance to show that Variety’s actions are not taken for granted,” explained Todd, “and to enable them to help another little girl like my daughter.”

Todd used his passion for running to support Variety’s mission and help more kids, like his daughter Katy. If you have any creative ideas and want to contribute to Variety, we’d love to hear about it! Connect with our team at info@varietystl.org or 314-720-7700.
