A Look Back at Virtual Adventure Camp 2020

Our first Virtual Adventure Camp has sadly come to a close. Although we were unable to host our in-person Adventure Camp and Teen Camp programs out of concern for the health and safety of Variety Kids, we still had a blast hanging out with our campers virtually for six weeks during the summer of 2020.

Remembering Merle Lee Buzzotta

We were saddened to learn of the recent passing of longtime friend to Variety St. Louis, Merle Lee Buzzotta. Merle Lee was a philanthropic and kind person who was dedicated to many community organizations, including serving as a Variety Woman for many years.

“Merle Lee never missed a Variety Women meeting and she loved working on the annual Fashion Show,” says Jan Albus, Chief Executive Officer of Variety St. Louis. “She was an officer of Variety Women and had a great love of the Variety cause.”

Making it Possible for Ben to Stand Tall

Variety Kid Ben has been diagnosed with quadriplegic cerebral palsy – all four of his limbs are affected – which makes it nearly impossible for him to stand on his own. At Variety, however, we don’t believe in impossible. So, we provided Ben with a stander to make it possible for him to stand.

Why is it important for Ben to stand up? Outside of having a new way to view the world, there are many health reasons that Ben needs a stander, one of which is avoiding painful, expensive surgery.
