Winter Camp 2018

As the holidays come to an end, kids are normally a little sad for all the excitement to be over. But not Variety Kids! That’s because, in late December, they join us for Winter Adventure Camp and Teen Camp!

This free day camp, which took place from Dec. 26 – 28 in 2018, is open to St. Louis-area kids and teens with disabilities, with two days of Winter Adventure Camp (for campers ages 4 – 16) and one day of Winter Teen Camp (for those ages 14 – 20). It is modeled after our Summer Adventure Camp and Teen Camp and gives these youth a chance to get out of the house and have some fun with friends during winter break.

On the first day of Adventure Camp, campers learned all about animals from our visitors from World Bird Sanctuary. They pet a snake and said “hello” to a falcon and a bald eagle! Campers also painted birdhouses in arts and crafts.

The second day of Adventure Camp was filled with even more fun, with a visit from Louie, the St. Louis Blues’ mascot! Louie danced, played and just hung out with campers while taking time to pose for photos and cheer on his favorite hockey team.

We also had a visit from the St. Louis Surge, a professional women’s basketball team. During our time with the Surge, we stretched, learned new basketball drills and skills and played lots of awesome games.

During Teen Camp, we spent a lot of time just hanging out with friends. Two of our favorite parts of the day were playing the Wii and singing our hearts out at karaoke!

Throughout the week, campers also made new snacks, danced and sang during music time, played games in the gym, climbed the climbing wall and had a great time swimming in the pool. It was a great week and now we really can’t wait for summer!

If you’re interested in registering for Summer Adventure Camp or Summer Teen Camp, you can find more information at Registration will open at 9 a.m. on Monday, January 7 and will close at 9 a.m. on Monday, January 14. And – if you register for Camp for this summer – you’ll be eligible to sign up for Winter Camp in 2019 as well!

Thanks to all of our campers for coming out, and to all of our visitors who helped make the camp experience even better! You can find more photos from the week on Flickr here.
