We are excited to announce that we have recently added another member to our team! Joy Addler has joined us as our new Performing Arts Manager.
But Joy isn’t necessarily new to Variety. She attended The Conservatory of Theatre Arts at Webster University and graduated in 2016 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Stage Management. It was during her time with The Conservatory that she was assigned to work on Variety Theatre's 2013 production of Peter Pan as an assistant stage manager.
And she never looked back – this year’s production of Disney’s The Little Mermaid was her fifth production with the Variety Theatre company. Joy shares that working with Variety was what solidified what she wanted to do with her career. In fact, it encouraged her to apply for a Masters in Nonprofit Management, which she is working towards now through Northeastern University.
“Since my first Variety show, I have wanted to pursue a career in inclusive and accessible theatre,” says Joy. “I feel so lucky and grateful that I get to do what I love every single day while helping to make magic for our Variety Kids and Teens.”
In her new position as Performing Arts Manager, Joy manages and coordinates the pre-production, planning and operations for Variety’s various Performing Arts programs. This includes not only Variety Theatre, but the Variety Children’s Chorus and Variety Dance programs as well.
If you ask Joy what she likes to do in her free time, she says that theatre is her job and her passion. She also shares that she is already “living the dream.”
“My favorite part about working with Variety is the fact that I get to spread theatre magic to so many people that normally would normally be excluded from experiencing it,” Joy continues. “Theatre is such a transformative experience, whether you are in the audience, on stage, or behind the scenes, and making that available to anyone and everyone is the most fulfilling work I can imagine.”
Welcome to the office, Joy, we are thrilled to have you here! If you’d like to contact Joy, you can reach her via email or at 314-720-7723.
