As always, we kicked Variety Week off in style with Runway Lights Fashion Show on April 6, 2019. Guests entered through the doors of St. Louis Union Station and were transported to a beautiful spring day in Venice, the location that served as the inspiration for many of the luxurious designs showcased. These fashions were part of the Lafayette 148 New York Spring 2019 Collection, this year’s featured designer.
Variety’s Ameren Power Kids also took the runway to demonstrate their impressive power wheelchairs, provided through Variety with help from Ameren. Arie, Abby and Hailey also modeled beautiful custom dresses from Carmen Marc Valvo as emcee Mandy Murphey, of Fox 2 News, shared their stories with guests.
Prior to the fashion show, guests enjoyed a delicious gourmet luncheon provided by Chef Greg Maggi. During the luncheon, guests were also introduced to Variety Kid Ashlyn and her mom, Jennifer. Along with Variety Women Chair Laura Ellenhorn, they shared the importance of therapy for children with special needs, and how the promise of help from Variety’s TherHappy Kids program makes a positive impact on the lives of Variety families.
During the TherHappy Kids appeal, hundreds of guests joined us in making a promise to continue helping Variety Kids like Ashlyn through therapy services, including physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and more.
Throughout the event, guests were also able to help Variety Kids through both a silent auction and a live auction, featuring exciting items, experiences and getaways.
Thanks to our underwriting partners, the Steward Family Foundation and World Wide Technology, and our supporters at Neiman Marcus, all proceeds from Runway Lights Fashion Show go directly to helping Variety and Variety Kids. And it is thanks to Honorary Chair Thelma Steward that Runway Lights has become the St. Louis fashion event of the season.
We'd also like to thank Michelle Rago Destinations for planning and designing yet another beautiful Variety event, and to Lodging Hospitality Management for donating the space at Union Station. Thanks are also due to St. Louis Motorcars for the use of their luxury vehicles to transport the gentlemen guests to their party in the Union Station Pullman Cars. Finally, thank you to the fantastic Variety Women and the many volunteers who help this event go off without a hitch each year.
And, of course, thank you to all of our guests for joining us for this year’s event! It is thanks to all of you that we are able to continue our mission of providing access and opportunity to St. Louis-area kids and teens with special needs. We hope to see you at the next Runway Lights Fashion Show on April 18, 2020!
