Steely Dan to Headline Dinner with the Stars 2020

We are thrilled to announce that this year’s headliner for Dinner with the Stars will be Grammy Award-winning Rock and Roll Hall of Fame band Steely Dan! Dinner with the Stars has been Variety St. Louis’ premier black tie gala for more than 50 years. Held at the Stifel Theatre, this glamorous evening brings together some of St. Louis’ most esteemed philanthropic citizens to celebrate Variety and enjoy a headlining performance by a notable entertainer, and this year’s event is sure to be one for the books!

Steely Dan is an American rock band founded in 1972 by Donald Fagen and Walter Becker. Combining rock, jazz, Latin music, reggae, traditional pop, and R&B, Steely Dan's extraordinary catalog of music is packed with infectious tunes, irresistible grooves, and sleek and subversive lyrics. They are currently ranked at #82 on the VH1 list of the “100 Greatest Musical Artists of All Time,” have sold more than 40 million albums and their album Two Against Nature earned a Grammy Award for Album of the Year. The band was also inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001. Founding member Walter Becker passed away in 2017, leaving Donald Fagen as the sole original member.

The Variety program will also celebrate Variety Kids and Variety’s mission to empower them to redefine abilities and reimagine possibilities. St. Louis native comedian Joe Torry will host the program alongside Variety Teens, which will also honor Variety’s 2020 Man and Woman of the Year, Lawrence K. Otto and Suzanne Sitherwood, and feature an unforgettable performance by the inclusive Variety Children’s Chorus.

Dinner with the Stars is underwritten by the Steward Family Foundation, World Wide Technology and the Centene Charitable Foundation so that all proceeds will benefit Variety Kids – the local kids and teens with disabilities Variety serves.
