Committee: Awareness

Favorite Event: Bikes for Kids, hands down. It’s something I look forward to every single year and I try to bring as many friends as possible. We spend a lot of time planning and organizing different events to raise money and awareness, but Bikes for Kids is an event where we get to really interact with the kids and see their excited faces. I once had a little girl ask me how long she could ride the bike. I told her it was hers to keep and she got a huge smile and shrieked with joy! It was an awesome moment for both of us!

How did you get involved with Variety? I started attending Variety events with my parents while I was still in school. I always left the events feeling inspired and wanting to do more. Once I graduated, I knew I wanted to get involved on my own. I joined the Board of Directors in 2013 and love participating in the various events. I was able to co-chair trivia night 2015 and have met so many great people in the process!

What's been your biggest take away from Variety? Young Variety is a great opportunity to connect with local young professionals for a good cause. But the BEST part about Young Variety is the inspiration I get from seeing and interacting with these children. They're so full of life and take nothing for granted. They face challenges many of us could never imagine and yet, they are the happiest children! It definitely puts things into perspective.

Why would you encourage others to get involved? Because you might get something out of it you don’t expect. I expected to put a lot into it, but I never realized how much I would get out of it. I didn’t realize these children and their families would teach me and give me more than I could ever give them.
