Lincoln and his family love to be on the go, constantly seeing new places and having adventures together. But Lincoln’s diagnoses of Potocki-Schaffer syndrome (a rare genetic disorder) and autism were often keeping them from doing the things they love.
Lincoln’s mobility is limited and he is also in need of a little extra support, so he has a large wheelchair to help him get around at home. This wheelchair, while a great piece of equipment, is large, bulky and difficult to load into the family vehicle.
So, Lincoln’s parents requested a special stroller from their insurance that they would be able to use on outings, both fun and necessary. The insurance company, however, denied their request, deeming it unnecessary because Lincoln already has the wheelchair.
Thankfully, Lincoln’s family had just found out about Variety St. Louis, and had even attended our 2017 Variety Theatre production, Wizard of Oz! They reached out, and Variety was able to provide Lincoln with the much-needed stroller.
“He can’t walk and it is getting harder to carry him,” says Amanda, Lincoln’s mom. “I love the stroller for the car and because he doesn’t need as much support anymore.”
The stroller folds up to easily fit in the vehicle along with the whole family, and they have already taken it all over town!
“We have used it to go to doctor’s appointments and the park,” Amanda says. “We also used it on an accessible playground and on a splash pad!”
Lincoln and his family also love musical theatre, and got to use the stroller to see Annie at The Muny. This fall, they plan to bring it along when they attend our 2018 Variety Theatre production, Disney’s The Little Mermaid.
They are very grateful for the many opportunities Lincoln now has thanks to his stroller and thanks to Variety and our supporters.
“I was super excited when I found out,” says Amanda. “We really appreciate it!”
