We are excited to announce that Drew Humphrey* is set to return to the Variety Theatre stage as Bert in this year’s production of Disney’s Mary Poppins.
Drew has been a part of the Variety Theatre family since he first played Bert in our 2015 production of Disney’s Mary Poppins, wowing audiences when he danced upside down and alongside Variety Teen Andrew. Since then, he has played many key roles for Variety Theatre, including Lumiere in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast (2016), Scarecrow in The Wizard of Oz (2017) and Scuttle in Disney’s The Little Mermaid (2018).
“I am thrilled to be back with the kids,” says Drew when asked why he is excited for this year’s show. “Revisiting this role is exciting to me because Bert gets to interact with so many different characters - last time I really felt connected in a special way with every cast member, and I can't wait to experience that again this year.”
A talented performer, Drew has also dedicated his time to helping Variety Kids improve their skills and build their confidence. He and his wife, Dena DiGiacinto, assisted Executive Producer Jan Albus in the development of our Curtain Up Camp, a weeklong program that helps the inclusive Children’s Ensemble prepare for the upcoming production.
Drew will continue this dedication to Variety Kids, and to Variety Theatre, as he also takes on the role of Assistant Director for the first time with this company. He says that he is proud to be a part of a quality production where storytelling and production values are prized, and where people of all abilities are included.
“Being a part of Variety Theatre means community, new friends and sharing in the best that humanity has to offer,” Drew adds. “It means leaving a world that tends to keep score, and spending time in a world only filled with support, acceptance, courage and strength.”
Beyond Variety Theatre, Drew’s many credits include the cast recording of Broadway’s White Christmas, and New York/Tours of Of Thee I Sing (Encores!), 42nd Street (1st National) and Lady Be Good (Encores! Cast Recording). He has also appeared in many regional productions, including Crazy for You as Bobby Child, Singin’ In The Rain as Cosmo, Cats as Skimbleshanks, and A Chorus Line as Don.
You can see Drew on stage alongside a professional Adult Cast and inclusive October 18 – 27, 2019 at the Touhill Performing Arts Center. Tickets go on sale August 1! Learn more about Variety Theatre .
