Note: As of September 26, the standard bike request deadline has been extended from Friday, September 27 to Friday, October 4!
At Variety, we believe that every child should have access to a bike, regardless of his or her abilities. Bikes grant freedom, independence and - most of all - fun! With a bike, a child can join his friends for a ride around the neighborhood, or a teen can build strength while having fun with her family.
At Variety St. Louis’ annual Bikes for Kids event, we make all of this and more possible by giving away more than 200 bikes to St. Louis-area kids and teens with physical or developmental disabilities. We provide standard bikes in multiple sizes, both with and without training wheels, so each child is sure to find the perfect fit. We also provide therapeutic bikes – bikes designed specifically for the rider’s needs – to Variety Kids with demonstrated financial need. These therapeutic bikes include adapted features like special frames, seats, pedals and more.
Bikes for Kids 2019 will take place on November 16 at Parkway Central High School. At the event, children and teens will receive their bikes along with all of the necessary safety gear.
If you are in need of a bike for a child or teen (ages 5 - 20), apply now to reserve your spot on the list. PLEASE NOTE: a parent or caregiver will need to provide transportation for the bike following the event.
For those requesting a standard bike (pictured above), please fill out the form here. Contact Robin Diehl via email or phone at 314-720-7717 with any questions. The deadline to request a standard bike is now Friday, October 4, 2019.
If your child is in need of a therapeutic bike (pictured below) specifically adapted to his or her needs, please contact Misty Burton directly via email or phone at 314-720-7708. Because of high demand and the fact that applications for therapeutic bikes are accepted year-round, there is currently a wait list for these bikes. Misty will add any approved applicants to the wait list - therapeutic bike applications do require additional medical and financial documentation.
Get those registrations in soon – all children and teens must be registered by October 4, 2019 to receive a bike at Bikes for Kids! We can’t wait to see you in November!
