Variety Facts
Mission: To serve children with physical and mental disabilities in the greater St. Louis region, whose needs would not be met were it not for Variety’s sustained commitment.
Variety the Children’s Charity of St. Louis was founded in Pittsburgh, Pa., in 1928 when a baby girl was abandoned in the Sheridan Theatre. The child's mother left a note stating, "Please take care of my baby. Her name is Catherine. I can no longer take care of her. I have eight others. My husband is out of work. She was born on Thanksgiving Day. I have always heard of the goodness of show business and I pray to God you will look out for her. (signed) A Heartbroken Mother."
