Variety the Children’s Charity of St. Louis mourns the passing of community volunteer, philanthropist, and civic leader Mary Ann Lee.
In recognition of her many contributions to the betterment of St. Louis, Mrs. Lee was named Variety’s Woman of the Year in 2004.
Projects that had the greatest impact on children were the projects nearest to her heart. For that reason, Mrs. Lee focused much of her generosity on funding Variety’s “St. Louis Through the Eyes of a Child with Disabilities.” This program enabled kids with physical and developmental disabilities to explore, in days set aside just for them, civic jewels including the St. Louis Zoo, the Art Museum, the Botanical Garden, the Missouri History Museum, and the Science Center.
Having witnessed the wide eyes of kids watching scientific principles come to life, or thrilling to the antics of lions and tigers and bears, we can say for certain that Mrs. Lee brought smiles, and so much more, to so many Variety kids.
We could never thank her enough for all she did. And we will never forget the impact she made on the lives of so many Variety kids.
