Jan Albus has been working with St. Louis children throughout her professional career. Jan has been the Chief Executive Officer of St. Louis Variety-The Children’s Charity since 1995. During this time, Jan has created and implemented a strategy making Variety a leader in nonprofit related marketing and corporate partnerships. These efforts have resulted in more than 20 million dollars raised for Variety’s programs and services benefiting children with disabilities.
During her tenure, Jan has developed innovative programs designed to benefit Variety Kids; including Bikes for Kids, Lifts for Kids, and TherHappy. She also founded Young Variety and the amazing Variety Children’s Theatre, an inclusive performance featuring Variety Kids and trained equity actors. Jan was awarded the Civic Leadership Award in May, 2011. In 2005, she led Variety’s first capital campaign to build St Louis’ first inclusive, accessible playground. Named The Dennis and Judith Jones Variety Wonderland, it is located in Forest Park.
Previous to her role with Variety, Jan has been a teacher and a marketing executive. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Louis University and a doctorate in teaching from the Imperial Society (L.I.S.T.D.) in London, England. She is an active member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals and the Sales & Marketing Association of St. Louis.
Since 1932, Variety the Children’s Charity serves children with physical and intellectual disabilities in the St. Louis region, from infancy to age 21. Variety focuses on four core areas to help kids become independent and productive: gifting medical equipment for mobility and independence; developing unique education and recreational programs; and funding therapy.
