Variety Parade

Saturday, April 17, 2010

Join us in celebrating Variety kids on Saturday, April 17, at the 7th annual Variety parade!  Opening ceremonies begin at 9:45 a.m. with a performance of the National Anthem
sung by the 2008 America's Got Talent winner, Neal Boyd. At 10 a.m. the parade will start marching at 18th and Chestnut Streets. All Variety children are encouraged to participate in this exciting event, which brings kids and their families together to socialize, provide entertainment to the community and spread the word about Variety. This is the second year using the new parade route: Downtown, near Union Station. It will begin at
Chestnut and 18th streets, travel east to Tucker (12th Street), then south to Market Street, and west to Union Station. After the parade, there will be a party at Aloe Plaza, immediately north of Union Station.

This year's event will include all of the classic elements of a parade such as giant balloons, classic cars and marching bands. Variety kids are the primary focus of the parade, so we encourage them to dress like a star and shine like a star and decorate their wheelchairs. Join us in honoring Variety kids!

If you would like to be involved with the parade, please contact Barb Kramer at 314-453-0453, ext. 115, or e-mail her at barb@varietystl.org.

Sarah's Story

William Shakespeare wrote, “All the world’s a stage.” In Sarah’s world, her place is not on the stage, but in the wings managing the show. The high school senior has been involved in school productions since ninth grade, but it wasn’t until she served as assistant stage manager for the Variety Children’s Theatre production of “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” that she realized just how big a role theatre plays in her life.
