Variety - The Children's Charity of St. Louis

Adventure Camp 2010 was so much fun! The Heights Community Center was a great central location for our families and allowed us to serve more than 75 campers. Camp was also held at The St. Peters Rec Plex, The Center of Clayton and The Forest Park Visitor Center. Some of the favorite activities of camp this year included karaoke, cooking, riding therapeutic bikes, ice skating and roaming the olympic carnival at the Forest Park Visitor Center. Making friends was a big part of camp and we can't wait to see everyone again next year!

Variety Adventure Camp is a fun, fulfilling affirmation of Variety’s "I Can!" philosophy. Children ages 4-12 with physical disabilities are eligible to attend this extraordinary day camp each summer and engage in a wide range of fun, challenging activities in the areas of sports, fitness, sensory art and music.

Variety Adventure Camp, which runs for three week-long sessions, is based at The Heights Community Center in Richmond Heights, Mo.  Campers have participated in challenging athletic endeavors, including ice skating, rock climbing, soccer and basketball, and field trips have included Creve Coeur Park, the St. Louis Zoo, Catch 22 Miracle Field and the Forest Park Visitor Center.
 
Specially trained counselors and medical professionals are on-site each day throughout camp. An emphasis is placed on safety, proper equipment fit and expert instruction to each camper’s ability level.
 
Variety the Children's Charity of St. Louis hires counselors with disabilities age 16-21 for their very first job experience. In addition, volunteer positions as junior camp counselors are also available to Variety children age 14-15.
