Variety Adventure Camp Affirms "I CAN!" Philosophy

Variety Adventure Camp is a fun, fulfilling affirmation of Variety’s "I Can!" philosophy. Children ages 4-12 with physical disabilities are eligible to attend this extraordinary day camp each summer and engage in a wide range of fun, challenging activities in the areas of sports, fitness, sensory art and music.

Variety Adventure Camp, which runs for three week-long sessions, is based at The Heights Community Center in Richmond Heights, Mo.  Campers have participated in challenging athletic endeavors, including ice skating, rock climbing, soccer and basketball, and field trips have included Creve Coeur Park, the St. Louis Zoo and Catch 22 Miracle Field.

Specially trained counselors and medical professionals are on-site each day throughout camp. An emphasis is placed on safety, proper equipment fit and expert instruction to each camper’s ability level.

Variety the Children's Charity of St. Louis hires counselors with disabilities age 16-21 for their very first job experience. In addition, volunteer positions as junior camp counselors are also available to Variety children age 14-15.

Sarah's Story

William Shakespeare wrote, “All the world’s a stage.” In Sarah’s world, her place is not on the stage, but in the wings managing the show. The high school senior has been involved in school productions since ninth grade, but it wasn’t until she served as assistant stage manager for the Variety Children’s Theatre production of “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” that she realized just how big a role theatre plays in her life.
